Sri Lankan eduation system consists mainly of Public free education system, and there are neumerous private schools and higher education institutes in the country.

The public shool network in Sri Lanka is vast, with about 4.2 million children enrolled in over 9,790 public schools around the country. These schools contain a teaching force about 200,000. The government spends 2.8% of GDP for education amounting to Rs 14 billion.
